The vessel seen here has been turned from a beautifully figured piece of Maple Burl rarely is this popular wood more splendid for turning. It has a textured quality, almost tapestry like. The finial has been turned from Cocobolo, one of the most beautiful and dramatically figured of the tropical American Rosewoods. Indeed, it is sometimes called the "Queen of the Rosewoods."
The finish, after sealing, is Danish oil (heat-rubbed into the wood), followed by hand-rubbing with a combination of carnauba and beeswax in a light solvent. This finish has what I think is a very light and transparent quality.
